Today is Thanksgiving Dutch, and soon it will be your birthday and I am saddened that this year we cannot spend them together. Dutch, Gabby keeps asking me" Where's My Dutch?" I wipe the tears away so your adopted granddaughter will not see that pain of lost and suffering in my eyes. In time Dutch she will know and than she can go visit you, brings flags and flowers and telling you all about her busy life. God, how she misses you. Dutch I want to thank you for seeing Doug through his recent Heart failure and procedures...he kept callling your name and telling me to let go of his hand now(in the E>E>)becuase Dutch had his other hand and he'd be all right. Dutch told me that he did not want you as a roomate, he was merely giving you the strength to fight,to hold on and be strong like you did for him. Dutch, Though we've never met, we share much in common. Besides VN and flying helicopters, we battle the same enemy - the big C - but it is a battle you can win. I did and so can you. Recommended reading: - Damaged but Not Broken, by Larry Burkett - The Cancer Battle Plan by Anne Phraun - Boost Your Immune System Now, by Arnold Fox, MD and Barry Fox, PhD - 50 Essential Things to Do When the Dr. Say's, "Its Cancer", by Greg Anderson - Your Power To Win With Cancer, Simonton, Simonton and Creighton, 1978 (online at http://www.ahealth.com/) - Spontaneous Healing by Andrew Weil, M.D. (online at http://wwww.hotwired.com/drweil/) The list goes on but these are, in my opinion, the best. Don't get too hung up on what you read about statistics. Remember, every person is different and therefore every cancer is different. You and your cancer are unique. Empower yourself by: - learning as much as possible about your cancer - convincing yourself that you can survive may help - developing your own regimen of diet, rest and treatment (vitamin and mineral supplementation may not be your choice) - believe that your regimen is working - surround yourself with fun-loving, caring people Most importantly and above all, have a strong, personal relationship with God. Get to know Jesus on a first name basis… and talk to Him often. Its certainly not medical advise, just the results of some experience. I'll be praying for you...let me know how else I can help. Dutch, I know those cancer treatments can leave you feeling like a wupt pup, but remember they are even harder on the cancer. Put a belt of 7.62 into every bug the Doc's find. Loosing some hair ain't no big thing for an old CAV warrior 'cuz you still have that big black stetson to make us mear mortals jealous. Don't fret yourself over the Doc's trimming those tumors in your noggin, medical expertise has gotten quite acurate. Collateral loss is at a minimum--you may only loose the last half of your golf swing--just think how many friends that could make you!;-)Know that you have a lot of friends praying and pulling for you.

Greetings Dutch - I had the HONOR of meeting you at our last reunion - and I know I will have that HONOR again this year. I don't know if you remember me BUT I do remember you. I am one of those short and squatty dudes kind of like Don (Ward), BUT much etter looking. I know through experience what you must go through. My son already went through this 4 years ago and thank God he is doing good today. Hang in there my friend - I know it is a rough go BUT you have a lot of guys thinking and praying for you everyday.
